A Man After God’s Own Heart

by Meri Pandevska

King David was a man after God’s own heart,
appointed from youth for a greater part.

Humble and honest, he lived his life for God,
Faithful and steadfast with valiant heart.

Gentle shepherd was, David from his youth,
He worshiped the LORD in Spirit and Truth.

David praised the LORD with music and with psalms,
Instruments with strings, like lyres and harps.

David danced and sang straight from his soul,
He was a man of God, a warrior renown.

The LORD was with David, watching over him,
He protected David from Goliath the Nephilim.

No giant, no man, could harm God’s very own,
He preserved his life, alone from His throne.

His heart was repentant, his soul longed for God,
And the Holy Spirit, he verily loved.

David was a man, after God’s own heart,
His everlasting house will never depart.

The Son of David, the Branch of his tree,
Is the Lord Jesus, the everlasting KING.
