When Did They Know?

by Hannah Ernst

When did Mary know that Jesus was our Lord?
Was it when the angel told her she’d have a baby boy?
Did she truly believe it?
Was it a look in his eye or something he said
Or was it the foot of the cross or the moment he lived?

When did Joseph know that Jesus was our Lord?
Was it when he heard it from an angel in a dream to take Mary as his wife?
Did he truly believe it?
Or was it when Jesus was in the temple, speaking to the elders.

When did Christ’s siblings know that Jesus was our Lord?
Was it an action he performed or something that he didn’t?
Did they truly believe it?
Or did jealousy cloud their minds and cover their hearts,
So, the foot of the cross and the moment he lived was the moment it cemented.

When did the disciples know that Jesus was our Lord?
Was it when he told them “Follow Me,” and they happily agreed.
Was it a parable or miracle and did they truly believe it?
Or was it at the foot of the cross and the moment that he lived that they really did believe it.

When did Jesus know that he was our Savior, our Lord?
Did he know it from birth or was it learned?
Was it the fact he never sinned that gave it all away?
When did he know that to the cross, he’d have to go,
To save us from ourselves and in our place, he’d have to die.

When did I know that Jesus was my Lord?
Was it when I first accepted or when I was baptized?
Did I truly believe it?
Or over time did I come to find that Jesus is my Lord.
