Sea of Troubles

I am in the midst
of a sea of troubles
A whirlwind of difficulty
rages around my very being
My problems drag
me down, down amidst 
the waves
drowning in sorrow
feeling no hope
There is no way out 
except to surrender 
submit to despair

And then a hand
a grab
a pull
I breathe relief
as strong arms of love
surround all that I am
They yank me out 
of the depths
into the calm
where I can rest
until the next storm

A wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Lori Wall-Holloway’s poetry has appeared in several anthologies. She enjoys capturing moments in the lives of those she loves and hopes her work will give encouragement to subsequent generations.
