Suffering Shared

by Mark Weinrich

Light shone through the fog
of my cancer and chemo,
a beam pointing away.
For someone is always suffering more,
someone lost in pain, someone stumbling
through the wilderness of grief.

No matter my struggles
they grew lighter
through losing myself
in gratitude and intercession.

There was a washing of memory
from past to future, a vision
of lifting as I was being lifted,
hours and days changed by
a deeper knowledge of knowing
how to pray.

Mark Weinrich lives a creative life as a writer, photographer, musician, and artist—all wrapped together in an outdoorsman. He is a retired pastor and nine-year cancer survivor.
