Questioning Doubt

by Brady Field

It astounds me that
the very questions that
raise doubts from the
watery deep, also have
the power to vanquish them.
In times of silent suffering
I ask myself: does a
cosmic bang explain
the coin in the fish’s mouth?
Or the bump of bacteria
the spiritual salve
of a child’s smile?
Like Job, I am dumbfounded.
For the questions alone
tell me all I need to know.
