Parable of the Moon

by Mark Weinrich

There is no flame
behind its comforting face,
no power to paint
this nightscape frosty gold.

Its guiding glow
bears the artistry
of another, the image
of one brighter.

Its radiant gleam
is a reflection
shimmering
with the likeness
of the sun.

In this present
darkness, I pray
make me
like the moon.

Mark Weinrich lives a creative life as a writer, photographer, musician, and artist—all wrapped together in an outdoorsman. He is a retired pastor and nine-year cancer survivor.
