Make for yourself an ark of gopher wood. Genesis 6:14 (NASB)
God gave Noah positive release through building the ark. I believe Noah found purpose and pleasure building during a troubled time. He was living out God’s plan, the plan to lift his family and all generations through the ark.
God gives us talents and gifts, as He did Noah, to lift others. And when we use our gifts, we are lifted as well. The apostle Paul rose above his prison-problems through writing letters. David settled his spirit while being pursued by King Saul through writing many psalms.
The creativity that God’s Spirit has placed within us is an instrument to relieve the struggles of others, and to give personal peace and victory at the same time. I often play guitar and sing old gospel hymns for people in the hospice. Not only does this comfort the dying, it lifts the family and caregivers. So many hymns have stories of severe struggle and amazing victory. I am grateful for those who, in spite of their troubles, wrote I’ll Fly Away, One Day at a Time, In the Garden, and many others. Like Noah’s ark, their gifts have lifted generations. And I am lifted as I use my gifts to honor the Lord.
PRAYER: Father, thank you for lifting generations through the gifts You have placed in believers. Help me to use my gifts for You. Amen.
