You pray to the Lord
Like it’s all worked out.
Say amen Sunday
Then walk back out
When the devil calls
Do you hold your ground?
Or drop to your knees
When no one’s around?
Tell me my friend,
When the prayer meeting ends,
Who are you between amens?
You bow your head
And tell a lie.
You tell yourself it’s different this time.
Shaking hands and reading scripture
But those smiling faces don’t know the bigger picture.
Driving home,
Those old thoughts start to hound you
And quick as lightning,
The devil surrounds you.
He’s got you backed in a corner
And you’re left in the lurch.
Do you call on God?
Or did you leave Him at church?
Tell me my friend,
When the prayer meeting ends,
Who are you between amens?
I walk into church.
I sing and I applaud.
Then I walk back out
With feelings of fraud.
I feel unworthy to be there.
Unfit to praise.
Because of the things I do
With my other six days.
Sundays are for the Lord
But the rest are all mine.
God keeps chasing me,
But I ignore all the signs.
I'm working on changing.
Boy is it tough,
But walking alone
Has been way too rough.
God, I need you
And not just now and then.
God, please help me
Between amens.
