Cornerstone

by Darrick Stephen Brown

Esthetically pleasing, appeasing to the eye
Splendid grandeur of architectural design
Towering spires reaching for the sky
Colorful glazing placed to amaze
Intricate works of iron, copper, and brass
Reflecting light from the sun's rays
Daunting vault ceilings, pillars, and archways
Masterfully crafted in wood, block, and brick
Erected long ago, stand steady as mainstays
These buildings have seen many rise and fall
Day by day, night by night, one at a time
Faith, measured weights, large and small
Battles won and lost, souls covered in blood
The war wages on as it did from the start
Sin abounds and is washed away by a flood
All gave some and some gave all...
Yet the One who saved the world endured
With saving grace, and still stands tall
Heed His warnings, follow His direction
Before leaving this earth, dig deep inside
Seek truth, His life, sacrifice, and resurrection
Then you will understand you are not alone
Just as a church foundation is made to last
Our faith must be built on Him, the chief cornerstone
