Parable

by Stephen R. Clark

Up there,
on the mountain,
hunger and thirst, He said.
I’m not sure what that means.
When I’m hungry, I eat. Too much.
And empty water bottles fill the recycle bin.
Maybe that’s why righteousness seems so distant.
I’m too full of it! Or rather, too full of everything else but it.
Lord, stop my mouth and let nothing else in
that I may know true hunger
and be filled with You
and abundant
life. Amen.
