Captured Through Compassion

by Mark Weinrich

Jesus didn’t just take time,
He made time.

Whether Nicodemus
or the woman at the well
whether blind Bartimaeus
or Mary Magdalene,
He served as if
he or she were
the one and only one
He was sent to live
and die for.

How often have we
cried, “Not now, Lord!
Not him! Not her!”
Then the Holy Spirit
whispered, “this
is the moment…”

He or she may
feel like a number.
Have they ever
known singular
compassion?
Compassion that moved
cur Lord to action.
Compassion that gives
what they never thought
or dreamed was
possible.
