Ecumenism

by Patrick Connors

for Hal Clarke, Jr.

In a church not of my
original denomination
Pastor Steve gave the
Word of Life to 4 people
as if we were four hundred.

Kash Ali, a true soul brother, saw
I was having a bad day chasing
fantasies, and reminded me the only
thing which matters is family –
and that we all are one.

The sacraments and rituals
we learn are a necessary blessing.
But the direction where they lead
the only judgment I will abide
is that God loves us.
