Spiritual Jeopardy

by Ron Levi

Is it any wonder we are a lawless society? It should not be since we are naturally lawless and spiritually disobedient. We are a society that inherently believes laws are suggestive rather than compulsory. How many are ready to admit to this obvious truth?
Exhibit A: Regardless of the speed limit, we drive above the posted limit even when it is not an emergency.

Regrettably, most drivers are dismissive of the natural law. However, it lays the groundwork for our contemptuous behavior toward authority to include the Lord.
The predicate we have nourished with disobedience also hardens our hearts to obedience and justice.
Exhibit B: The Lord commands us to love and forgive our neighbors. Is there any amongst us that disagrees this seldom occurs? We deliberately withhold love and forgiveness.
In self-righteousness, the bedeviled believe they are justified. We have the right to choose to whom we bestow these precious gifts. Disobedience in the natural parallels our spiritual contempt for the mandate the Lord has decreed. The unwillingness to be obedient stains our souls and limits our spiritual growth.
There is no such thing as a minor disregard for the law; natural or spiritual, sin always has consequences.
