by Stephen Paul Wren
The wake is full of musings that dress a civil silence. Goodbye tears serve their purpose as solutes to her passing. Their power is to stop hawks and doves fighting in burst hearts. We all forgive in a dream and we all start to forgive. Here, the wake becomes His wake and His life feels like lifeblood. His whole life and His last rites dress this silence and all sounds.
Dr Stephen Paul Wren was educated at Cambridge and worked as an industrial chemist before transitioning back into academia at Oxford. He joined Kingston University in September 2018 where he works as a Senior lecturer. Stephen’s poetry can be read here.
