by Patrick Connors
Mary was tired and cold and in labour.
Joseph tried to check his wife
into a hotel for the night
but there was no room.
Advent is the darkness just before dawn.
We hold our breath until the moment
the Master comes back to save us.
It is the promise of a time of joy.
When the Son entered this world
angels from the highest heavens
sang the words of eternal triumph
only for humble shepherds to hear.
