New Digs

by Lawrence Hopperton

Sacrifice, a promise
fulfilled brings Christmas
fog halos down; traffic
lights halo down still.
We came yesterday,
can’t see walls, floors, or
anything packed in boxes
to the ceiling,

but the crèche is out.
Overwhelming opportunities
create rest, life-space
lived for, raised children for.
Visit when you can. I miss you,
the church and the bridge, alchemy.

Lawrence Hopperton lives in Stouffville Ontario. His chapbook, Ptolley Bay, was published by Lyrical Myrical Press in 2013, and has authored two collections, Table for Three, and Such Common Stories.
