The Afterlife

by Pat Severin

This life is so crowded with nary a space
for thoughts concentrated on Jesus’ sweet grace.

Our mind’s pulled in so many taxing directions,
the pace leaves no time for constructive reflection.

And yet our dear Father says thoughts need to be
completely on Him so the Way we can see.

Yet human excuses leave us saying we’ll try
with attempts unsuccessful, half-hearted, a lie.

So what do we do, can this be rectified?
It can but it needs Jesus Christ by our side.

For He, only He that can make this life worth living
by offering love and His constant forgiving.

God’s Word tells it all so His truth can be learned
explaining how Heaven’s a gift never earned.

It’s the love of the Father that prompted His Son
His death on the cross was for us, everyone.

That’s why, when He rose, we became risen, too,
and when we believe, Heaven’s dream can come true.

To know what it’s like, the Bible is clear.
It tells us that Heaven is nothing like here.

That Jesus went back to prepare something grand,
a place full of mansions He created by hand.

Life there is eternal and will be sheer perfection
no sorrow, no hurt, love in every direction.

For me it is more than the Bible describes
as a place that has mansions where believers reside.

I think that my Heaven’s much more than a place.
I’m sure it’s existing in a true state of grace.

However, it is, I can’t wait till that day
When Earth and its sadness will all pass away.

In heaven I’ll see Him, my Savior first-hand
to be there with him will be simply GRAND!
