Guide My Feet

by Aubrey Lewis

Guide my feet, wise and gentle Lord, into the way of peace.
Guide my hands, with Your loving word, into the rest of sleep.
I was alone in this house but when You heard, I could not bear to weep.
Guide my feet, wise and gentle Lord, and my broken body, please keep.

Guide my feet, dear kindly Light, I’ll sit in darkness till we meet.
Hold these bones with Your might; surely I will walk again, complete.
I was looking up at the great long night, but You heard my urgent entreat.
Guide my feet, dear kindly Light; let dayspring come, with His mercy sweet.

Guide my feet, tender and joyous Grace, though my blood once stained the street.
Ease my mind, with Your shining face; be my soul’s awaiting retreat.
I am sick and afraid, but my heart You embrace; the Master would never any soul, mistreat.
Guide my feet, tender and joyous Grace, and my fettered spirit, please release.

Guide my feet, into the way of peace; give me knowledge and patience, replete.
Guide my feet out from the shadow of death, wash away my sins, wash away my conceit.
Bring me lower than the dust, and to You, I will repeat, “Guide my feet, good Lord of All.”
Break my pride, mend my wounds, and raise me from defeat.
In You, I will never fall. In You, I am as the wheat.
