God is in the Flowers

by Carrie Farrar

Look for God in flowers
Cascading through the hills
Brimming in hues of amaranth
Among the daffodils.

Look for God in sunbeams
That dance upon the trees
Basking in the morning sun
And prancing in the breeze.

Look for God in mockingbirds
Whose song commands the dawn
A tournament of melody
And feather-speckled brawn.

Look for God in mountaintops
That clamber for the sky
A patchwork quilt of ragged peaks
Whose strength you can't deny.

Look for God in raindrops
That fall upon your face
Whose dewy shards remind us
Of God's unrelenting grace.

Look for God in ocean waves
That pounce upon the shore
Whose murky depths and frothy tips
Vociferate and roar.
Look for God in quiet sighs
Adorning starry nights
Where moonbeams joust with meteors
Among the fairy lights.

Look for God in golden fields
Of chaparral and brush
Amid a tapestry of sage
Resilient and lush.

Look for God in waterfalls
A dance of water white
Howling like a cataract
That bellows in the night.

Look for God in marshy blogs
Whose water burns through weeds
A churlish haze of Buttonbush
And Waterberry seeds.

Look for God in silences
And moments of repose
In quiet spaces He resides
Beside the English rose.

For God exists in all you see
And all you say and do
Gaze upon a sunset
And then you will see God, too.

In rivulets He sings to you
In glacial streams He sighs
In gusty winds His symphony
Resounds within the skies.

So when you meet Him in the woods
Mists rising left and right
His leathery fog that heaves and steams
Holds you in his light.
