Thunder rumbles in the distance,
A stirring lullaby,
Measured, quiet in this instance,
Quivering the sky.
Sleep enfolds me like a blanket,
A gentle touch of peace,
A soothing lullaby.
Guilt surrounds me in a cloud,
Shame invokes its shadowed shroud;
Sleep dulls the pain and wraps me in oblivion.
Thunder rumbles, shakes the windowpane;
It rumbles through the sky.
I hear the storm and wish for rain,
A cleansing lullaby.
If tears would trickle down my cheeks
Would there be relief?
My hope, is strong, but I am weak;
I cling to guilt through unbelief.
Where then should I begin?
My soul is lost in endless oceans—
And yet my Savior cries—
The One Who spoke and formed the universe
Calls out beyond the storm-streaked skies.
“Listen to my declaration,
The mightiest lullaby.
I have shattered Adam’s curse
You soar above the tide.
Your sense of guilt has no foundation
Because I died.”
