Too many to count,
Close enough to touch.
The sight of them
Brought us to our knees.
They announced His coming
As if we were fit
To stand before
Somebody great.
But here we are,
We who smell of flock and field,
Kneeling before the wonder
Who is Mary’s child,
Who is
The Ancient of Days.
