Shema

by Caroline Liberatore

it began with a whispered word
awaken

startling sedentary dust
leaping to whirl
my love
wafting from this proper cavity
an unstamped envelope of decay
receive

with the words a cosmic expansion
exhaling vegetation
my love
translucent eyes prismed
with watercolor condensation
awaken
and in a moment, you haunted my heart
